Wroc³aw Public Library with its 55 branches serves the community of City of Wroc³aw. The Library collection contains publications in Polish language as well as selected foreign language prints in all fields of knowledge.
The entire collection is made up of materials in many formats including: books, magazines, newspapers, videocassettes, DVDs, audiocassettes, compact discs.
The Library also offers free access to Internet, on-line databases, electronic journals.
In order to use the collections readers have reading rooms at their disposal.
The Wroc³aw Public Library offers various programmes for its clients, from babies, toddlers, teens adults and seniors: storytime, class visits, book clubs, author readings, musical performances, art exhibitions, computer workshops, educational multimedia activities in two Multicentres, and many more.
One of the most well-known branches of the Wroc³aw Public Library is Mediateka – the library for young clients, established in 2004 as a result of the Bertelsmannn Foundation project. Mediateka serves over 1000 clients per day and it plays a role of the cultural multimedia centre.
The complete Wroc³aw Public Library collection totals over 1 023 195 items. Of these 965 859 are books, 37 998 are talking books, 7313 are films on DVDs and CDs, 4 577 are compact discs with music, and 7 448 are electronic documents.
Information on the most of the collection of the Wroc³aw Public Library is accessible in electronic format in the Library’s OPAC in the ALEPH system and in the electronic catalogues.
The main objectives of the Wroc³aw Public Library are:
I. To deliver public library service for Wroc³aw residents of all ages in accordance with community needs for lifelong learning, education, culture and leisure
II. To provide timely access to accurate and useful information in a variety of formats and technologies
III. To support intellectual freedom as the prerequisite for an informed, democratic society
IV. To provide an electronic gateway to the world of the Internet and beyond
V. To provide efficient, effective and equitable public library service
